Okay, this story definitely wins the weird news of the day award …

Jay-Z and Beyonce are moving towards trademarking their baby’s name – Blue Ivy Carter. Um, okay …
.
The new parents want to reserve the name for possible use as a brand name for a line of baby-related products, including carriages, diaper bags and – get this – baby cosmetics.

.
The couple were forced to act fast in protecting the name after fashion designer Joseph Mbeh submitted an application to trademark “Blue Ivy Carter NYC” on January 11th, just four days after the child was born. A second applicant attempted to claim “Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV” for a line of fragrances on January 20th. Both claims were denied, because the Trademark Office recognized that the name belonged to the already-famous kid.
.
Can’t you see the roll call in Blue Ivy’s classroom now? “Mark Schwartz?” “Here!” “Julie Smith?” “Here!” “Blue Ivy Carter, TM?” “Here!”
.
What do you think of Beyonce and Jay-Z trademarking their kid’s name? Weird? Or no?
