254 MUNGIKI MEMBERS ARRESTED

Kenya police says they arrested more than 250 suspected members of an outlawed gang infamous for beheadings and extortion.

The suspected Mungiki members were arrested in an overnight swoop in the capital Nairobi and its outskirts, Nairobi region police chief Anthony Kibuchi said.

"We had a major security operation where 254 suspected Mungiki members were arrested. They will be charged in court later today," said Kibuchi.

Police are concerned about more violent protests in annexed east Jerusalem after Friday prayers following clashes sparked when a Jewish settlement guard shot dead a Palestinian.

The move is in addition to an Israeli military decision to seal off the occupied West Bank for 10 days from Tuesday for the Jewish festival of Sukkot, known to Christians as the Feast of Tabernacles.

SIX MEN ARRESTED FOR TRYING TO ATTACK POPE IN BRITAIN!

A US pastor last night called off his plan to burn copies of the Koran tomorrow, claiming he had struck a deal that involved moving the planned location of an Islamic cultural centre and mosque in New York.

SUICIDE BOMBER TARGETS POLICE STATION

REUTERS - A suicide bomber rammed his car into a police station in northwest Pakistan on Monday killing at least 17 people, police said, in the third in a string of attacks by al Qaeda- and Taliban-linked militants over the last week.

An official said the death toll could rise as the police station had collapsed after the blast and workers were trying to rescue people trapped in the debris.

The recent attacks ended a relative lull in militant violence over the past month, which has seen the worst flooding in Pakistan's history, and have added to pressure on a government struggling to cope with the crisis.

SEA LION ATTACKS BOY AT ZOO

SYDNEY (UPI) -- A sea lion at an Australian zoo attacked and bit an 11-year-old boy who had just finished shaking the animal's "hand," zoo officials said.

Jack Lister of Cairns had been selected to meet the sea lion during an audience encounter at Sydney's Taronga Zoo, The Sunday Telegraph reported.

The animal sneezed on Lister, which got a laugh from the audience, and then handlers told the boy to shake the sea lion's hand and wave goodbye.

As the boy turned away, the animal attacked, biting Lister on the stomach and then again on his back as the boy attempted to get away.

ISRAEL AIRSTRIKE HIT SMUGGLING TUNNEL IN GAZA

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) -- Gaza security officials say an Israeli airstrike targeting a smuggling tunnel has killed one Palestinian, wounded a second and left three more missing.

The Hamas officials identified the five as smugglers working in the tunnel under the Gaza-Egypt border.

They spoke Sunday on condition of anonymity because authorities had not officially released the information.

The Israeli military said aircraft attacked tunnels in retaliation for Hamas shooting attacks against Israelis in the West Bank over the last week.

The Hamas attacks killed four settlers and wounded two others. They took place as Israelis and Palestinians relaunched direct peace negotiations in Washington.

MICHAEL JACKSON WISHES IGNORED!

AFP - The auction house that is putting Michael Jackson's memorabilia under the hammer in Macau has dismissed accusations that the sale goes against the singer's wishes, a report said Sunday.

More than 100 items once used by Jackson -- including a pair of crystal-studded gloves and a set of Jackson 5 jumpsuits -- will go on a sale by US-based Julien's Auctions in the glitzy gambling haven of Macau in October 9.

But in an interview with British tabloid Daily Star in August, Jackson's former lawyer, Brian Oxman, said the late star had tried to stop the auction, and the sale in Macau would be tantamount to selling off his children's estate.
